Budan (Darwin) was bombed, February 1942 during the Second World War. Grandpa and his family were living at Talc Head. Grandpa was in Budan with his brother, Roy Bigfoot at the time when the bombs struck. They scrambled to where he hid his canoe and quickly made it back to Talc Head where their family were waiting for them. Soon after, the army took them away from the war zone for safety. They were taken to Katherine by truck however, Grandpa and the family walked back North , to Wadjigan country around Banakula and stayed out of sight for a while.
Once the war was over Grandpa Harry asked by the Army to help them search for crash sites where planes had gone down during the war around country. He was asked to aid in this search as he has a vast knowledge of the geographical terrain of this area.
Fifty years later, Grandpa Liman was awarded a Certificate of Contribution to the End of War Effort and Coming of Peace after the Second World War.
